Actor J Campbell Kerr is a familiar face to audiences in Glasgow and throughout Scotland, where he has performed for over twenty years.
He has played a wide variety of roles in musical theatre, his favourites including Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Curly in Oklahoma!, Robert in The New Moon, The Red Shadow in The Desert Song, Tommy Albright in Brigadoon, Casanova in Casanova – The Musical, Giuseppe in The Gondoliers, Dexter in High Society, Johan Straus II (Schani) in The Great Waltz, Mr Snow in Carousel, Fred Graham/Petruchio in Kiss Me, Kate, Gaylord Ravenal in Show Boat, Mr Bumble in Oliver!, Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Anatoly in Chess – The Musical, Thomas Andrews in Titanic – The Musical, the King of Siam in The King and I, Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.
Campbell’s other theatre work includes Rev. Hale in The Crucible, The Angel in The Business of Good Government, Hymie Felderman in Morning Star, Alan Conway in Time and The Conways, John McLean in The Game’s A Bogey, Romainville in Ring Round the Moon, Otto Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, and most recently René in ‘Allo ‘Allo. In pantomime Campbell has played everything from Principal Boy to Evil Villain, and latterly a very popular Pantomime Dame.
Campbell is constantly in demand for the concert platform and has been a soloist at various venues across the country. In 2002 Campbell was a soloist in The Sound of His Music at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in the inaugural tribute to Richard Rodgers in his Centenary year with the RSNO. In 2004 he was a soloist in Scotland – Reaching Out to Africa at the Clyde Auditorium.
Off-stage, Campbell has Directed both pantomimes and musicals, with recent productions including Oklahoma! at the King’s Theatre and Anything Goes at the Theatre Royal.
